2011-2012 STUDENT
APPEARANCE AND DRESS CODE
Trafalgar Middle School considers school a student’s workplace. Though some clothing may be appropriate to wear when socializing with friends or going on outings, they may not be appropriate for school. Trafalgar Middle School enforces the student dress code adopted by The School District of Lee County. The purpose of our dress code policy is to encourage students to focus on the learning process without the distractions of unsuitable dress and grooming. Students shall maintain a clean, orderly appearance at all times.
TOPS
- Shirts or blouses shall be appropriately fastened in accordance with the design of that shirt or blouse.
- All shirts and blouses must have sleeves.
- All shirts and blouses must have a collar.
- Shirts and blouses may not be tied up.
- Collared shirts must be worn on the outside, not covered up by another shirt.
- Midriffs should not be shown at any time.
- Strapless or low-cut clothing or tops and outfits that provide minimum coverage or are of the suggestive nature are prohibited; halter tops, tank tops, spaghetti strap style dresses or shirts, muscle shirts or other clothing which may be distracting are prohibited.
- All shirts or blouses worn under other clothing items (such as jackets or sweaters) must adhere to these guidelines because outer garments should be able to be removed in warm weather.
BOTTOMS
- Shorts and skirts must be no shorter than three inches above the knee. The slit of the skirt may not extend higher than fingertip length. If leggings are worn under shorts or skirts, they must still meet these same guidelines.
- Pants shall be properly fastened, buttoned, zipped and worn at the natural waistline. No makeshift belts such as chains, ropes, or cords are permitted. Belts must be buckled.
- Due to safety concerns, pants should not drag on the floor.
- Pajama pants and undergarments, such as boxer shorts, may not be worn as outerwear, nor should they be visible at anytime.
- Purchased clothing with holes cut into the garment will be reviewed by the administration. Skin must not be visible through holes above the knee.
FOOTWEAR
- Shoes (appropriate footwear) shall be worn at all times. The following are not permitted for safety reasons: open toed shoes, shoes without backs/straps, thonged shoes/sandals, flip flops, beach style sandals, shoes with metal bottoms, shoes with wheels, mesh shoes, and any type of slipper.
MISCELLANEOUS

- Intentionally altered clothing is prohibited.
Students are expected to meet dress code expectations each day of school. Students who choose not to meet the dress code will not be permitted in class until appropriate clothing is secured. The administration reserves the right to declare other items not covered in this dress code inappropriate for school. The final decision as to whether an item is appropriate for school rests with the school administration. Repeated, purposeful violations of the TMS dress code will be considered as insubordination. Insubordination will be dealt with in accordance with the guidelines in the Code of Conduct for Lee County Public Schools. |
